Charlie J. Fowlkes Jr. was born on October 12, 1922. He served in the 849th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Tail Gunner on the B-17 #43-38128 during World War II. He was Killed in Action on September 13, 1944, when his plane was shot down by flak and crashed at Fuerth-Saar, east of Ottweiler, Germany.
Sgt Fowlkes is now buried in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery, Providence, Caswell County, North Carolina, USA.
