Ralph E. Gregory, Jr. was born on April 14, 1918, in Painesville, Ohio. He was the son of Ralph Eugene Gregory and Jane H. Gibson Gregory. He was married to Frances Weber Kingery.

Ralph resided in the District Of Columbia prior to the war. He served in the 849th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Captain and Pilot/Mission Commander on the B-17G #44-8140 during World War II. He was Killed in Action but was declared "Missing" on December 5, 1944, when his B-17 was hit by enemy flak and crashed in Gross Zerlang, Germany. His remains were never recovered.

Cpt Gregory is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing, Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands. He also has a cenotaph located in the Evergreen Cemetery in Painesville, Ohio.
