Sidney E. Iglitzen was born on January 9, 1917, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the son of Max Iglitzen and Ruth Ilin Iglitzen. He was working in Retail when he was drafted as a Private in Chicago on May 3, 1942. He was of the Jewish Faith.

Sidney served in the 849th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Technical Sergeant and Top Turret Gunner on the B-17 #43-38135 during World War II. He was Killed in Action on April 19, 1945, when his airplane was shot down by a jet enemy aircraft. His plane crashed in Marienburg, Germany, which resulted in the death of 7 men aboard while two men were taken as prisoners.

TSgt Iglitzen is now buried in the Waldheim Cemetery Co., Forest Park, Cook County, Illinois, USA.
