Robert L. Jackson entered military service in Idaho. He served in the 849th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a First Lieutenant and Pilot of a B-17 during World War II. He was Killed in Action on November 5, 1944, during a mission to Ludwigshafen, Germany. He managed to bail out of his stricken plane but was killed by an SS Officer near Mannheim after he landed. 1Lt Jackson is now buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery, Hombourg, Belgium.
