Harry Pines entered military service in New York. He served in the 849th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Technical Sergeant and Radio Operator/Mechanic/Gunner on a B-17, Robert L. Jackson crew, during World War II. He was Killed in Action on November 5, 1944, on a mission to Ludwigshafen, Germany. He is now buried in the Lorraine American Cemetery, Saint-Avold, France.
