Gelo Erwin Staggs was born on January 1, 1922, in Unionville, Missouri. He was the son of Ortho Thomas Staggs and Sylvia Belle Loughead Achenbach.
Gelo served in the 849th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Gunner on the B-24 #44-40442 during World War II. On July 29, 1944, he was killed when his plane failed to gain flying speed at the end of a runway and burst into flames. Sergeant Pooler is now buried in the New Albany National Cemetery, New Albany, Floyd County, Indiana, USA, in the same grave as TSgt Pooler.
