Edward T. Tijan was born on October 3, 1925. He was the son of Emil Tijan and Vera Tijan.

Edward served in the 849th Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Ball Turret Gunner on the B-17 #43-37894 "Big Poison" during World War II. On February 6, 1945, he was killed in the crash of his plane when it collided with B-17 43-37806 'Miss Fortune.' Of his crew members and the other plane's crew, Sgt Tijan was the only casualty.

Sgt Tijan is now buried in the Mount Carmel Catholic Cemetery, Hillside, Cook County, Illinois, USA.
