John F. “Buddy” Volin, Jr. was born on October 8, 1923, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He was the son of John Francis Volin and Frances McDermott Volin.
John, Jr. served in the 851st Bomber Squadron, 490th Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Staff Sergeant and Tail Gunner on the B-17 #44-6303 during World War II. He was killed on September 28, 1944, over Germany, after his plane was hit by flak. SSgt Volin is now buried in the Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Pittsfield, Berkshire County, Massachusetts, USA.
