Herbert D. Walton was born in 1918. He resided in Tulare County, California, prior to the war. He enlisted in the Army on March 2, 1943, in Los Angeles, California. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being employed in the building of aircraft and also as Single, without dependents.

Herbert served in the 860th Bomber Squadron, 493rd Bomber Group, H860th Bomber Squadron, 493rd Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Staff Sergeant and Top Turret Gunner on the B-17 #44-6513 during World War II. He was Killed in Action on April 9, 1945, when his airplane was hit by an enemy flak and crashed near Munich, Germany. All men aboard were killed as a result of the crash.

SSgt Walton is now buried in the Epinal American Cemetery, Dinozé, France.
