                            William J. Gleason served in the 862nd Bomber Squadron, 493rd Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Lieutenant and Navigator on the B-17 #44-8352 during World War II. On December 31, 1944, his airplane was hit by flak, exploded, and crashed in Hamelin-Pyrmont, 100km SW of Hannover, Germany. Gleason survived but was taken as a prisoner. He was returned to military control on May 26, 1945.
