Paul Richard Prather was born on August 28, 1915, in Martinsville, Indiana. He was the son of Silas Prather and Ella May Voiles Prather. He was married to Anna A Cascian Simons.

Paul served in the 863rd Bomber Squadron, 493rd Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on March 19, 1944, and is now buried in the Cambridge American Cemetery, Cambridge, United Kingdom.

Died in accident on 19 March 1944 whilst on TD with the 100th BG. Prather and another armorer were killed when an RAF plane made an emergency landing at Thorpe Abbotts on March 19th and the plane struck their vehicle. Heckman said Prather was killed instantly by a prop and the other armorer was thrown from the vehicle. He died of a fractured skull. (information supplied by 100th BG Historian)
