Ralph Elwood Schnarrs was born on September 29, 1923, in Philipsburg, Centre County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Walter Bloom Schnarrs and Rena Bell Cushard Schnarrs.

Ralph served in the 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He died on August 22, 1944, during the liberation of Vexin in France. PFC Schnarrs is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery, Montjoie Saint Martin, France.
