Francis Stanley Murphy was born on February 28, 1925, in Exeter, New Hampshire. He was the son of Henry Francis Murphy and Mary Agnes Cain Murphy.

Francis Stanley resided in Rockingham County, New Hampshire, before the war. He enlisted in the Army on August 4, 1943, in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was noted, at the time of his enlistment, as being Single, without dependents. Francis Stanley served in the 311th Field Artillery Battalion, 79th Infantry Division as a Private during World War II. He died from his wounds received in combat on August 23, 194, during the liberation of Vexin in France. He is now buried in the Calvary Cemetery, Newmarket, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, USA.
