Emmett Helton was born on September 11, 1919, in Fulton County, Georgia. He was the son of Henry A Helton and Lena Nunn Helton.

Emmett served in the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 28, 1944, during the liberation of Vexin, France, and is now buried in the Warsaw Cemetery, Johns Creek, Fulton County, Georgia, USA. His name is commemorated on a monument in Fontenay-Saint-Père, France, but his unit inscribed is 315th Infantry.
