Melvin Steinbrink was born on October 23, 1922, in Monroe County, Wisconsin. He was the son of William H. Steinbrink and Edna Mae Seeley Steinbrink.

Melvin served in the 315th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 28, 1944, at the age of 21, during the liberation of Vexin, France. Pvt Steinbrink is now buried in the Glendale Cemetery, Kendall, Monroe County, Wisconsin, USA.
