Freeman H. Sanquist was born on March 17, 1910, in Sherrard, Illinois. He was the son of Charles F Sanquist and Margaret Robertson Sanquist. He was married to Mary J Slavish Sanquist.

Freeman graduated from Sherrard high school and operated a restaurant there for a number of years. He was employed at the International Harvester works before entering the Army.

Freeman served in the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 28, 1944, at the age of 34, and is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
