Joe Mon Bud was born on July 9, 1911, in China. He was married to Wong Shee Bud.

Joe served in the 120th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 29, 1944, at the age of 33, during the liberation of Vexin, France. PFC Bud is now buried in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas, USA. His name is commemorated on the Liberation of Vexin monument in Fontenay-Saint-Père, but his middle initial is inscribed as E, and his rank is a Private.
