Ralph Everett Sherwin was born on January 10, 1918, in Leominster, Massachusetts. He was the son of Marvin Whittier Sherwin and Elizabeth Agnes Harkins Sherwin.

Ralph served in the 119th Infantry Regiment, 30th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 30, 1944, and is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Evergreen Cemetery, Massachusetts. His name is listed on the liberation of Vexin monument in Fontenay-Saint-Père, France, but his first name is spelled 'Ralf.'
