Clarence Wilbur Ludwig, Jr. was born on July 31, 1925, in Camden, Camden County, New Jersey. He was the son of Clarence Wilbur Ludwig and Jane D. Case Ludwig.

Clarence Wilbur, Jr. served in the 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 24, 1944, during the liberation of Vexin, France, and is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Rose Hill Memorial Park, Connecticut.
