Floyd Sawyer Crow was born on September 10, 1924, in St. Clair County, Alabama. He was the son of Floyd L. Crow and Mary J. Crow.

Floyd Sawyer served in the 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, as a Sergeant during World War II. He was Killed in Action on August 27, 1944, at the age of 19, during the liberation of Vexin, France. Sgt Crow is now buried in the Cool Springs Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Ashville, St. Clair County, Alabama, USA.
