Paul F. Fischer was born on May 11, 1925, in Washburn, North Dakota. He was the son of Hans A Fischer and Penilla Mellum Fischer.

Paul graduated from Washburn High School in 1943 and attended Bismarck Junior College. He was inducted into the Army on September 9, 1943, and trained first with the Rainbow Division at a camp in Oklahoma. After going overseas, he was stationed first in England and then took part in the assault upon and capture of Cherbourg, France.

At the time of his death, Fischer was serving in the 314th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division, as a Private First Class. He was Killed in Action on August 27, 1944, at the age of 19, during the liberation of Vexin, France.

PFC Fischer is now buried in the Riverview Cemetery, Washburn, McLean County, North Dakota, USA.
