Paul John Heuermann was born on September 28, 1917, in Saint Louis, St. Louis City, Missouri. He served in the 429th Fighter Squadron, 474th Fighter Group, as a Second Lieutenant and Pilot on the P-38 #42-67527 during World War II.
On June 29, 1944, 2Lt Heuermann took off at Station 454 in Warmwell, England, for a dive-bombing and strafing mission in Tillières-Sur-Avre, France. At around 12:15 PM, his plane crashed due to engine failure or lack of fuel. The plane crashed in La Mare Sangsue - 1.5 km southeast of Epinay. 2Lt Heuermann was found dead with his parachute unopened. He was temporarily buried with his parachute wrapped around his body. A few days after Épinay was liberated, his body was recovered by the Americans.
2Lt Heuermann is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
