Benjamin Forbes Savage was born on July 13, 1916, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He served in the 510th Fighter Squadron, 405th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on the P-47 #42-76392 'Red Honey' during World War II.

On July 30, 1944, 1Lt Savage took off at Advanced Landing Ground A-8 in Picauville, France, for an armed reconnaissance mission in Avranches. At around 7:00 PM, he hit a high-tension line and crashed near Chavoy - 4 km northeast of Avranches. He did not survive.

1Lt Savage is now buried in the Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France.
