Robert Charles Haas was born on February 8, 1922, in Newark Heights, Essex County, New Jersey. He enlisted in September 1942. At the time of his death, he was serving in the 511th Fighter Squadron, 405th Fighter Group, Second Lieutenant and Pilot on the P-47 #42-26318.

On August 14, 1944, 2Lt Haas took off from Advanced Landing Ground A-8 in Picauville, France, for an armed reconnaissance mission to Dreux. At 2:40 PM, he was shot down in aerial combat by an enemy fighter, crashing his airplane towards Moinville-la-Jeulin. He was killed during the combat.

2Lt Haas is now buried in the Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, Union County, New Jersey, USA.
