Simon John Wilczek was born on November 17, 1923, in Loyal, Kingfisher County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Simon Peter Wilczek and Rose Margaret Ronspiez Wilczek. He was married to Dorothy Ellen Wilczek.

Simon served in the 534th Bomber Squadron, 381st Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Sergeant and Bombardier on the B-17 #42-38009 during World War II.

On June 15, 1944, his crew took off from Station 167 airfield in Ridgewell, England, at 05:00H to bomb the airfield in Bordeaux-Mérignac, France. At 08:09H, their plane was shot down by flak, and fortunately, the whole crew was able to evacuate, and all members survived. Sgt Wilczek landed in Uzeste and was recovered by the Villandraut Resistance. He returned to the UK on September 26, 1944.

Sgt Wilczek died on October 20, 2009, at the age of 85. He is now buried in the Kingfisher Cemetery, Kingfisher, Kingfisher County, Oklahoma, USA.
