Comments:

Franklin Bush Caldwell was born on August 31, 1920, in Anderson, Madison County, Indiana. He was the son of Paul R. Caldwell and Edna O. Caldwell.

Franklin served in the 328th Bomber Squadron, 93rd Bomber Group, Heavy, as a Second Lieutenant and Navigator/Bombardier on the B-24 #42-40983 'Bar Fly' during World War II.

On April 1, 1944, his crew took off from Hardwick, England, for a mission to Germany. At 11:52H, on return from their mission, their plane was shot down by flak and enemy fighters between Fresne-les-Reims and Burgundy, France. Unfortunately, none of the crew members survived. The MACR cannot be found, but it is possible that the plane crashed in Belgium.

2Lt Caldwell is now buried in the Maplewood Cemetery, Anderson, Madison County, Indiana, USA. His name is commemorated on a monument located in Bourgogne-Fresne, France, but his middle initial is spelled E.
