Robert August Schaloske was born on April 5, 1921, in Cook County, Illinois.

He served in the 315th Fighter Squadron, 324th Fighter Group, as a First Lieutenant and Pilot on the P-47 #42-26852 during World War II. On December 16, 1944, he took off from Dole-Tavaux airfield for a bombing mission over Munster. Around 10h30, his aircraft was shot down by flak and crashed then expoded. 1Lt Schaloske was able to evacuate by parachute by later was captured by the Germans. He died from his wounds while a POW.
