Claude Lofton Martin was born in 1922 in Alabama. He was the son of Ferrell Lofton "Pop" Martin and Mary D. Martini Martin. He was inducted into the Army on January 18, 1943, at Fort McPherson, Georgia. He served in the 320th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Division, as a Private during World War II. Pvt Martin died from his wounds received in battle on August 2, 1944, during the liberation of Domjean in France. He is now buried in Normandy American Cemetery and was awarded the Purple Heart.
