Alberto Garcia was born on January 11, 1917, in Rawlins, Carbon County, Wyoming. He was married to Maria Leocadia Sanchez. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on December 18, 1942, and assigned to Company E of the 326th Airborne Engineer Battalion, 101st Airborne Division, as a Private First Class. He trained at Camp Roberts and Fort Benning before deploying to Europe.

During Operation Market Garden in September 1944, the 326th Airborne Engineer Battalion supported Allied advances in the Netherlands by clearing obstacles and maintaining vital roads and bridges. Some engineers arrived by glider under heavy enemy fire, and one glider crash near Son resulted in several fatalities.

PFC Garcia was Killed in Action on September 20, 1944, and is now buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery and Memorial, Margraten, Eijsden-Margraten Municipality, Limburg, Netherlands.
