Raymond Martin was born on June 15, 1923, in Hanna, McIntosh County, Oklahoma. He was the son of Lonnie Boaz Martin and Ida Samantha Torix Martin Owen. PFC Martin served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.

PFC Martin died from his wounds received in battle on July 10, 1945. He is now buried in the Epinal American Cemetery and Memorial, Épinal, Département des Vosges, Lorraine, France.
