Jack D. McPherson was born on February 8, 1924. He was the son of William Claud McPherson and Luna E. Montague McPherson. He enlisted in the service on March 2, 1943. Sgt McPherson served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.

Sgt McPherson was killed during the attack on Arbrefontaine on January 5, 1945, when a round struck his tank’s turret, deflected, and fatally hit him in the head. He is now buried in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Ardmore, Carter County, Oklahoma, USA.
