Walter Edward Poore was born on December 17, 1919, in Randolph, Norfolk County, Massachusetts. He was the son of Alexander Livingstone Poore and Bernice Gardner Fuller Smith. PFC Poore served in the United States Army with the 740th Tank Battalion in World War II. Known as the “Daredevil Tankers”, the 740th was a separate battalion that fought from Utah Beach all the way to the Baltic Sea in support of various divisions of the US war effort.

PFC Poore died from his wounds received in battle on January 6, 1945. He is now buried in the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial, Henri-Chapelle, Arrondissement de Verviers, Liège, Belgium. He also has a cenotaph in the Oakland Cemetery, Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts, USA.
