Douglas Edward Kashmer was born on July 20, 1977, in Manning, Clarendon County, South Carolina. He was married to Toni Kashmer. He graduated from Reynolds High School in Greenville, Pennsylvania, in 1996. He was a diesel mechanic before enlisting in the service in 1997. He was assigned to the 70th Transportation Company and stationed in Mannheim, Germany, and was deployed in Iraq to support Operation Iraqi Freedom.
On June 8, 2005, Spc Kashmer died in Nippur, Iraq, when the military recovery vehicle in which he was a passenger overturned during a non-combat-related accident. He is now buried in the West Side Cemetery, Sharpsville, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, USA.
