Dick Alson Lee Jr. was born on July 23, 1980, in Keystone Heights, Clay County, Florida. He was the son of Dick Lee and Brenda Carroll. He was married to Katherine Lee. A 2000 graduate of Keystone Heights High School, Lee enlisted in the U.S. Army in August 2000 to become a military police K-9 handler. Throughout his career, he completed numerous professional military courses, including the Military Working Dog Handler Course, Special Reaction Team Course, Warrior Leaders Course, and Advanced Leaders Course. He served as a military working dog handler with the 529th Military Police Company, 95th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, based in Sembach, Germany. Lee had deployed to Afghanistan in January 2012, marking his fourth combat deployment in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

SSgt Lee was killed on April 26, 2012, in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan, when the vehicle he was traveling in struck an improvised explosive device during a patrol. His assigned military working dog, Fibi, was also killed in the explosion. Currently, we don't have details about his burial location.
