Paul Andrew Rivera was born on March 19, 1985, in Travis County, Texas. He was assigned to the 709th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, based in Hohenfels, Germany. He was later deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Sgt Rivera died on October 22, 2011, in Puli Alam, Logar province, Afghanistan, of injuries suffered in a vehicle rollover during an attack by enemy forces. He is now buried in the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, Killeen, Bell County, Texas, USA.
