Preston J. Suter was born on January 1, 1989, in Monterey County, California. He was the son of Christopher J. Suter and Patricia Jacobs. He was married to Nicole Suter. He served with the 709th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, based in Hohenfels, Germany. He was later deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

Spc Suter was killed on July 5, 2011, in Paktia Province after enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He is now buried in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery, Sandy, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA.
