Joshua Adam Throckmorton was born on April 3, 1983, in Okinawa, Japan. He was married to Leslie Throckmorton. After graduating from Battle Creek Central High School in 2001, Throckmorton enlisted in the United States Army. He served a combat tour in Iraq before being assigned to the 709th Military Police Battalion, 18th Military Police Brigade, 21st Theater Sustainment Command, based in Hohenfels, Germany. In April 2011, he deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

SSgt Throckmorton was killed on July 5, 2011, in Paktia Province, Afghanistan, after enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He is now buried in the Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, Kalamazoo County, Michigan, USA.
