SSgt Nicholas Bentas was born on May 11, 1922. He was the mechanic of the B-26 “My Gal II” when it took off from the Dijon-Lonvic airfield January 19th, 1945 at 1:03 am on a bombing run to Achern, Germany. At 2:10pm, the plane fell out of formation due to technical problems and crashed a little later in Fountain, near Besancon, killing the entire crew. Bentas was 23 years old. The villagers have held a memorial there every year since 1945. He is now buried in the White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery, Troy, Oakland County, Michigan, USA.
