1st Lt Joseph R. Belgam was the pilot of the B-17 42-102967 "Diplomat" on February 6th, 1945 when it took off from Station 153 in Framlingham, England on a mission to Chemnitz. The crew got lost and ran out of fuel, forcing them to bail out over Ahun and Saint Sulpice les Champs, in friendly territory. After regrouping at Gueret, they returned to the UK and their bombing runs a mere ten days later.
