James Ramsey Fox, Jr. was born in Dalhart, Texas. In 1942, Fox joined the Chinese National Aviation Corporation (CNAC). He became the flight captain of a C53 cargo aircraft that flew supplies and troops to the Chinese government in their struggle against Japan during the Second Sino-Japanese War (otherwise known as the War of Resistance Against Japan). On March 11, 1943, while flying over the dangerous Hump route from China back to India, Fox and his two Chinese co-pilots crashed in the mountains near the China-Burma border due to inclement weather. All three died in the crash. A monument has been erected in front of the courthouse in Dalhart County, Texas in his honor.
