Felix J. Shostak was born in Proctor, Vermont on November 19, 1919. He joined the U.S. Army Air Force and served as a staff sergeant during World War II. SSG Shostak was a member of the 860th Bomber Squadron, 493rd Bomber Group. On August 18, 1944, SSG Shostak and his crew were shot down during an attack of a German airfield in Roye-Amy. The B-24 bomber, nicknamed "Bolicat," crashed in Boussicourt. All but one member of the crew died in the crash, including Shostak. Shostak received the Purple Heart and Air Medal for his brave sacrifice.
