Tincourt-Boucly American Aviator Memorial
Jackson K. Chestnut, from Savannah, Georgia, was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force. He served as the flight engineer gunner for the 36th Bombardment Squadron, Heavy, during World War II. On November 10, 1944, SGT Chestnut's B-24 Liberator crashed just north of Tincourt-Boucly in Bois de Buire. During a secret Radio Counter Measure (RCM) mission to jam German radars for a RAF attack, Chestnut's B-24 received flak, resulting in two of its engines failing. The pilot of the aircraft, 1LT Hornsby, ordered the crew to bail out. Three crew members died in the crash. Everyone else survived the crash, including SGT Chestnut.
