Tincourt-Boucly American Aviator Memorial
Joseph Ross Hornsby was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army Air Force from Dothan, Alabama. 1LT Hornsby served as the pilot for the 36th Bombardment Squadron, Heavy during World War II.
On November 10, 1944, 1LT Hornsby's B-24 Liberator crashed just north of Tincourt-Boucly in Bois de Buire. During a secret Radio Counter Measure (RCM) mission to jam German radars for a RAF attack, Hornsby's B-24 received flak, resulting in two of its engines failing. Hornsby ordered the crew to bail out. Three crew members, however, died in the crash. Everyone else survived the crash, including 1LT Hornsby.
