Major A. N. Stark, Jr. was the Battalion Commander of the 2nd BN, 61st Infantry, 5th Division during World War I. On November 5th, 1918, MAJ Stark and his battalion liberated the city of Dun-sur-Meuse during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive.

Died as a Brigadier General.
From Find a Grave: Brigadier General Alexander Newton Stark - 61st Infantry Regiment, 5th Division, American Expeditionary Force. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross to Major (Infantry) Alexander Newton Stark, Jr., United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with 61st Infantry Regiment, 5th Division, A.E.F., near Cote St. Germaine, France, 7 November 1918. His battalion being stopped by machine-gun fire in the attack of 7 November 1918, Major Stark personally led it in a renewed attack and thus succeeded in gaining the Cote St. Germain. Major Stark personally captured a machine-gun and 13 prisoners, his personal example of fearlessness encouraging his men to advance against odds.
