B-17 (41-24501) 'Daisy's Coffee Shop' Crash Site Memorial Plaque
POW Camp Stalag Luft III & VIIIC Museum (Muzeum Obozów Jenieckich)
1st Lt James M. Ferguson, pilot of the B-17 41-24501, took off from Station 111 in Thurleigh, Bedfordshire, UK on a bombing mission over St Nazaire’s submarine pens. They were targeted by flak and fighters until the crew bailed out over the Atlantic. Ferguson was captured and spent time as a POW as follows:
Jan 5th- Jan 11th 1943 – Dulag Luft,
Jan 15th – Apr 11th 1943 – Oflag XXIB,
Apr 14th 1943 – Jan 27th 1945 – Stalag Luft 3 Sagan,
Liberated April 29th 1945 from Stalag 7A in Moosburg.
His dogtag is exhibited at the POW camps museum in Zagan, Poland
