Sgt Harold Dean Lester, tail gunner of the B-26 Marauder 42-96271, took off from A-50 Orléans-Bricy on a bombing mission over Arhweiler, Germany’s railroad. Although the mission was successful, just as they were about to land back in Bricy, their plane collided with B-26 Marauder 43-34141, killing both crews.
