John Ignatius Kanyo was born on October 24, 1914, in Hungary. He was the husband of Ruth Dillickrath. He enlisted in the service on July 31, 1943. He served with the 179th Engineer Combat Battalion as a Corporal during World War II.
Cpl Kanyo was Killed in Action on August 23, 1944, during the liberation of Saint-Fargeau-Ponthierry, France. He is now buried in the Brittany American Cemetery and Memorial, Saint-James, Département de la Manche, Basse-Normandie, France.
