Huter landed at Utah Beach and fell under the command of General Patton's 3rd U.S. Army. After the war he stayed in France to marry a woman from Le Mans named Thérèse. He was tragically killed in a Jeep accident in Belgium in September 1947 just before he, Thérèse, and their son Joseph were meant to travel to the United States for Christmas
