Robert Reighard Beegle was born on October 22, 1919. He was the son of Percy D. Beegle and Nellie DeEsta Reighard Beegle. Robert served in the 555th Bomber Squadron, 386th Bomber Group, Medium, as a Staff Sergeant and Engineer/Gunner on his B-26 Marauder, named the "Son of Satan" during World War II. His plane was shot down by an anti-aircraft artillery on the November 18, 1944 mission to bomb the storage dumps at Saint Wendel. A direct hit tore the left wing off outboard of the engine, causing the aircraft to lose control. He is now buried in the Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupré, Belgium. He also has a cenotaph located in Bedford County Memorial Park, Bedford, Bedford County, Pennsylvania.
