James L. Blanchard, III was born on May 8, 1920. He was the son of James and Myrtle M. Bryan Blanchard. James, III served in the 362nd Fighter Squadron, 357th Fighter Group as a First Lieutenant during World War II and was credited a 1x kill. He failed to return from an area support mission for 1st Airborne to Arnhem aboard his P-51D #44-13741 'Buddy Boy' aircraft. James, III was Killed in Action when his plane was shot down by enemy fighters on September 19, 1944. He died at the age of 24 and is now buried in the Sherburne West Hill Cemetery, Sherburne, Chenango County, New York, USA.
